Sölden: A Climber’s Paradise – Rock, Routes and Via Ferrata

Where there are many mountains, there is plenty of rock. And where there is plenty of rock, there is a dream destination for climbers of all abilities. The Ötztal is synonymous with ‘Climbers’ Paradise’ in the global climbing scene and lives up to this reputation with first-class facilities. In the 20 climbing areas alone, with around 750 routes, sport climbers will find an almost endless vertical playground covering all levels of difficulty.

Secured by a continuous wire rope, the 7 via ferrata routes in the Ötztal lead you upwards. Footholds in the rock lead the way to a sense of exhilaration, with some key sections requiring strength, skill and courage. A helmet, chest and seat harness, and carabiners are absolutely essential for this mountaineering challenge, because as always: safety first!

A few helpful climbing tips

Familiarise yourself with your equipment: Use only mountain sports equipment that complies with standards (CE mark) and study the instructions for use carefully. Carry out a partner check before every climb: Check each other’s equipment. Rope knots, harness buckles, belay device, carabiner locking mechanism, rope ends. And, of course: Give your full attention when belaying! Your partner’s life is in your hands.
