Buying advice for ski poles

A good ski pole must be sturdy, stiff, and lightweight. Two factors are important when it comes to ski poles: choosing the right length and the right material. Cheap ski poles are made of aluminum, which guarantees acceptable but only moderate strength. The ideal material for a sturdy ski pole shaft, on the other hand, is carbon.

It is very light, extremely stable, stiff, and has better properties, which is easier on the joints and muscles. Ski poles are available in fixed lengths and as adjustable poles. These telescopic poles are adjustable in length and therefore easy to adapt and transport, which makes them interesting for ski tourers and freeriders. At Sport Brugger, you can choose from a wide range of different poles.

Tips for choosing the right ski poles:

The right length

Stand upright and grasp the inverted pole above the basket. If your upper and lower arms form a right angle, the pole is the right length.

The right basket

In rough terrain and deep snow, a large basket is advantageous as it does not sink in so quickly. Smaller baskets are sufficient on hard slopes. On some models, such as freeride and touring poles, the baskets can be exchanged as required.

The grip

The simple versions are made of hard plastic, while more comfortable models are made of soft or dual-density material, which provides better cushioning and insulation. There are special models with narrower shapes for women.

The pole strap

Simple versions should be adjustable in size. In addition, there are safety straps that automatically release in the event of a fall, as well as click systems where the entire strap is attached to the glove and separates completely from the pole in an emergency.
